Here’s a reminder to always check on your gas cylinders at home to ensure they do not leak.

Also, here's a reminder for you to stop smoking once and for all.

An elderly man from Penang learnt a really painful lesson when he decided to light up at his home on Monday (19 August).

However, he was not aware that his Desa Green Apartment unit located in Georgetown was filled with leaked gas as their gas cylinder had been leaking all this while.

According to a report by Bernama, the act of him lighting up caused an explosion in the house, bringing down a room wall and even the wall separating his apartment from the adjoining one.

Walls completely ripped off.
Timur Laut Police chief ACP Che Zaimani Che Awang confirmed the incident, telling the news portal that the explosion was caused leaking gas.

As for the 62-year-old man, he reportedly suffered multiple injuries believed to have been caused by the collapsed walls, as well as 80 per cent burns on his body as a result from the explosion.

He is reportedly in a serious condition at the Penang Hospital.

Two flats were affected.
Fortunately, the victim’s son, daughter-in-law and grandson, who were sleeping in their bedroom at the time of the incident, escaped unhurt.

So, let this be a lesson, boys and girls: the next time you want to light up at home, don't. And remember to check your gas cyliner to see if it's leaking.
