In today’s day and age, it is common for Malaysian citizens to check the Facebook pages of government organisations for updates. However, followers of the Facebook page for the Public Services Commission (Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam) Perak were astonished to find that it had been hacked by irresponsible parties and a number of pornographic videos had been uploaded to the page.

According to The Reporter, the account had been hacked since 12.47pm on 16 October 2023 (Monday). The illicit videos showed videos of women in undergarments carrying out indecent acts. The last time the Facebook page had been updated before being hacked was on 27 September on the announcement of the fitness test results for Operation Assistants Grade N11.

Many of the followers of the Facebook page were appalled by the videos. Some of the netizens were of the opinion that the admin of the account had accidentally clicked on a link sent by hackers.

“Haa…the person managing the page will have to explain themselves tomorrow. You were told to work, not to click on random links,” a netizen commented.

Another Facebook user posted about the incident saying, “The official Facebook page for Perak’s Public Services Commission has been hacked. Now it’s a pornography page. How embarrassing. For the admin of the page, you have to recover the page just by clicking on the link facebook.com/hacked.”

“The majority of these types of cases are usually hacked through email rather than Facebook. The Facebook admin will be able to reset their account through their email account. For government servants who manage government pages, please get a Facebook/Meta blue certification. Facebook has several ways of creating several special roles as ‘Super Admin’ or ‘Root Admin’ which cannot be seen by other admins and cannot be removed. That is useful in such instances,” they advised.

Another Facebook user cheekily commented, “Their IT personnel went out for breakfast.”

The Perak Public Services Commission has since made an announcement on the incident through their website. “We have been informed that our official Facebook page has been hacked by irresponsible parties. In relation to this, we request that users refrain from visiting the page. Any further announcements will be made through this website. Thank you.”

Update 3:26pm:

The page has since been updated and the videos have been removed. Only the posts after 27 September remain and there are no posts in October. The story is still progressing.
