Poisonous Portuguese 'Man O' War' Are Washing Up On Terengganu Beaches
Have you seen sea creatures called the Portuguese Man O' War?
The creatures are pretty to look at as they carry bright blue, pink, and purple colours on their translucent bodies but their sting is often fatal.
The sea creatures have now appeared at Pantai Kelulut and Pantai Pulau Kerengga in Marang, Terengganu, Malaysia.
This has been confirmed by Terengganu Fisheries Department director Ruzaini Mamat, as reported by Mashable SEA.
"There may still be other jellyfish along the coast and monitoring is under way. Visitors are advised to immediately report to the department if they come across this jellyfish," he was quoted as saying in the report.
Can be poisonous even dead
He also cautioned the public to not touch the creatures even if they are found dead as they still could be dangerous.“If stung, immediately go to a nearby clinic or hospital for treatment."
The report said the Portuguese Man O' War are washing up in Terengganu beaches due to the current phase of the Northeast Monsoon season where the creatures do not swim but move with water currents instead.
When the wind is strong, it could end up on the shore.
In Feb 2020, a similar incident happened when the sea creatures were spotted on three beaches in Terengganu.
