Almost a year ago, the government announced that National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan defaulters have been cleared from being blacklisted, which meant that they are able to travel abroad now.

The news was received well among those who took up the loan and many praised the government for the move.

However, it seems that your ‘vacation’ period may be coming to an end soon.

Let's hope this doesn't come true.
PTPTN chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan recently said that they are planning a proposal to the government to reinstate the travel ban among PTPTN defaulters.

“If the people are for it, we will bring it up to the Cabinet, but the decision is not in our hands,” Wan Saiful told Free Malaysia Today.

He added that it will be an “effective way” to get defaulters to pay their loans consistently, but the decision will ultimately be made by the government.

How far along are you guys with your PTPTN repayment?
Some people have criticised PTPTN for giving special treatment to defaulters and the decision to lift the ban last year also received some flak.

“It is a reflection of our seriousness in keeping to our promise of ensuring that the youth are not burdened by the cost of living,” he said.

PTPTN is also considering introducing other means in order to get people to start paying back their loans, such as barring defaulters from renewing their passports, driving licences, and road tax.

So, do you think restoring the travel ban will be beneficial to everyone, or it will just add burden to the defaulters? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
