Finally some good news for Australia!

Some parts of the country, which has been experiencing drought and fell victim to one of the largest bush fires in history, saw rain on Thursday (16 January) which helped put out some of the fire and contain others, CNN reported.

Temporary relief

While the rain gave some relief to the firefighters who've been diligently working to contain the fire that killed at least 29 people and an estimated of one billion wildlife, burned down 25 million acres of land and destroyed the homes of thousands of people, it has not solved the problem entirely.

According to The Guardian, as of Friday, there are still 30 uncontained fire and 82 bush fires that are still raging in New South Wales, on top of 17 bush fires in Victoria.
More rain is expected in the next few days, although reports states that the battle is far from over.
The New South Wales Rural Fire Service tweeted: "Relief is here for a number of firefighters working across NSW. Although this rain won’t extinguish all fires, it will certainly go a long way towards containment. This footage was captured down at the Good Good Fire burning near Cooma. #nswrfs #nswfires"

Other issues are arising

While the rainfall is helping with the fire, it is also bringing it's own issues.

Reuters reported that with the heavy storm comes the risk of flooding, hailstorm, strong wind, cause water pollution.
Let us all hope that Australia will see better days soon!
