Raja Bomoh Returns by Performing ‘Rituals’ at Jalan Masjid India Sinkhole, to be Summoned by FT Mufti’s Office

Who can forget the sight of the ‘Raja Bomoh’ holding up two coconuts to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane in 2014 when it went missing? The Raja Bomoh, Ibrahim Mat Zain, attracted attention when he and his assistants claimed to use a spiritual method and prayer for the ritual, which…unfortunately, obviously didn’t work.

One of the last updates we got in February 2022 via Malay Mail about the controversial figure was that Raja Bomoh was under investigation for allegedly insulting Islam and violating a state fatwa. He had gone viral for performing a ritual to allegedly hold back floodwaters using rice, turmeric, flowers, and more.
Raja Bomoh likes to make an appearance once every few years because he performed a ritual at the sinkhole site where the Indian national disappeared on Jalan Masjid India on August 28. As reported by FMT, he had sprinkled ‘special water,’ which he claimed was sourced from the bottom of a Perak waterfall. He also requested to see the sinkhole to ensure the success of the search but was denied entry by police.
Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar said Raja Bomoh’s actions have caused public distress and misunderstanding about Islam among the community. The Federal Territories Mufti’s office will summon him to perform the ritual.
Mokhtar elaborated that Raja Bomoh is being monitored by the Federal Territories Mufti’s office under Section 129 of the Syariah Criminal Procedure Act (Federal Territories) 1997 because of his previous ritual practices.
Many have criticised his actions, who say they are against Islamic teachings.
