Report: Huawei Has Developed Their Very Own OS Called 'Hongmeng OS'

Boys and girls, if you are still in a holiday daze and haven’t heard already, US President Donald Trump had imposed a ‘ban’ on Chinese telecommunication firm Huawei from doing business with American companies.

What this means is, Huawei can now no longer buy parts or software from US suppliers without government approval.

Following that, Google announced that it is ceasing business with the company. Soon after, US chipmakers Intel and Qualcomm also announced that they will not be working with Huawei until further notice.

With everything that's been going on with the brand, it's only natural for Huawei users to pound the panic button. However, don’t go to a full panic mode just yet!

The good news is, if you already own a Huawei device, you will continue to get security updates and access to the Google Play Store. The restrictions are only for the brand’s upcoming phones.

If you are still in doubt, there's more good news.

According to a report by Huawei Central, the company has developed its own operating system, in prepration for such an event. This was even confirmed by Huawei CEO Richard Yu back in March.

The portal, quoting a source, said the operating system is called “Hongmeng” and it has reportedly been in active development since 2012.

Interestingly, the source also revealed to Huawei Central that the company has been using the operating system in its mobile phones all this while, "potentially hidden behind the curtain."

'Hongmeng OS' will gradually replace the Android system, the report said, and rumours have been floating around saying that the OS will debut on the Huawei Mate 30 Series.

Huawei, however, has not confirmed this news nor reveal anything about the 'Hongmeng OS', so we'll just have to wait and see.
