Report: Over 25 Million Android Devices Infected With ‘Agent Smith’ Malware

If you're using an Android smartphone right now, run a security check immediately.

That's because more than 25 million Android devices are reportedly infected by a newly discovered malware called 'Agent Smith.’.

According to a report by INC.com, the matter has been confirmed by security company Check Point.

A security report released by the Israeli company revealed that the malicious malware could replace everyday apps such as WhatsApp on your phones with "versions that serve up ads in a profit-making scam".

Yep, that doesn't sound good at all.

Apparently, the malware takes advantage of a weakness in the Android mobile operating system, and it’s not a good development for Google as the company is expected to fix it but reportedly failed to do so.

However, the report said that the malware did not come from the Google Play Store, but through a third-party app which was traced down to have been hosted on app download site 9apps.

The report also said that the malware is one of the biggest threats to the Android mobile operating system in recent years.

Therefore, Check Point has urged Android users to update their smartphone's operating system to protect themselves from this malware.
