We are sure many of you freak out at the sight of cockroaches.

What if we tell you that there’s a type of cockroach that is far bigger than the regular house cockroach?

That's huge!

We can hear you screaming already!

According to a report in Mashable SEA, an expedition to survey uncharted waters off the southern coast of West Java, Indonesia in 2018, led to the findings of more than 12 new species of new marine life.

A clearer picture

Fast forward to 2020, the team that went for the expedition has officially confirmed the identification of a new species called ‘Bathynomus raksasa’ or monster sea cockroaches.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

The species is actually a giant isopod, which usually scavenges off the remains of dead marine animals at the bottom of the ocean.

They can grow to an average of 33cm to 50cm and can survive for long periods without food, just like regular cockroaches.

We just hope they don’t morph into animals that can live on land anytime soon!
