Ruhainies, Faisal Halim, & PADU Among Malaysia's Most Googled Searches in 2024
Whether you notice it or not, there are just a few weeks left before 2024 comes to an end. In a year with a fair share of sporting triumphs and controversies, here are what Malaysians googled the most this year.
Most Googled people of 2024
Local actress Ruhainies became the most searched figure this year, largely due to her controversy with actor Aliff Aziz. In March, the duo made headlines following their khalwat issue. Aliff Aziz is also among the most googled this year, charting at number three.
Datuk Azizulhasni Awang also became one of the most searched individuals this year. The national pride dubbed as ‘The Pocket Rocketman’ stirred emotions after his heartbreaking disqualification from the men's keirin at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Also on the list is Thai badminton player Kunvalut Vitidsarn. The 23-year-old wowed sports enthusiasts after he outmatched former world champion Loh Kean Yew at the Malaysia Open.
Finally, Selangor FC's dynamic winger, Faisal Halim, became the fifth most googled figure this year following his shocking acid attack in early May.
Most searched in 2024
This year seems to be the year for sports enthusiasts, as major events like UEFA Euro 2024, the AFC Asian Cup, and the 2024 Paris Olympics were among the top five most searched topics.
Who can forget the excitement Malaysians felt when Lee Zii Jia, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik brought home bronze medals for the country in the Olympics? Not to forget, the Paralympic athletes also brought home a total of five medals from the prestigious event.
Also mentioned in the list are the Central Database Hub (PADU) and the Rahmah cash contribution.
Those we lost in 2024
This year also had us witnessing many heartbreaking cases like Zayn Rayyan and Nidza Afham. The passing of other global icons that made the list include former One Direction member Liam Payne and Japanese manga artist, Akira Toriyama
