A School For Autistic Children Is Set To Open In Langkawi

It is heartwarming to see that we as Malaysians are doing all we can to help autistic children live a better life.

The National Autism Society of Malaysia (Nasom) is reportedly set to open a school for autistic children in Langkawi.

According to a report by Bernama, the island was chosen as the location to set up the school because it currently lacks an autism-specific learning centre.

Quoting Nasom chairperson Felina Feisol, the report said the lack of such facilities on the island has forced parents to seek other options far away from their location.

A three-storey shoplot in Taman Seri Diamond has been selected to run the school, the news agency reported.

She said that the school will offer early intervention and vocational programmes, while the number of teachers will be determined based on the enrolment.

It was reported that currently, 54 children with autism had been registered with Nasom’s Langkawi Parents Association upon learning about the opening of the school in the island, with more expected to sign up soon.
