Selangor Govt Recommends Urine Tests as SOP for Concert-goers to Prevent Drug Usage
The Selangor government will recommend urine tests as a standard operating procedure (SOP) for concert-goers in the future to prevent drug use at concerts held in the state.
According to State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim, the recommendation will be discussed at the state executive council meeting tomorrow, Wednesday (8th January).
Aside from the urine test, other improvements to concert SOPs to be discussed include providing scanning equipment. This is to detect and prevent prohibited materials from being brought into the venue.
Additionally, Datuk Ng said, they want to examine what cooperation can be conducted with the police and local authorities to ensure contraband is not brought into concert venues in Selangor.
“From now on, we might need to conduct urine tests as part of the SOP for visitors, and this recommendation will be brought up at the meeting so that people who abuse drugs or are taking drugs are not allowed to enter any concert venues.”
In another related news, last week, the Selangor police announced a temporary suspension of concert permits in the state. This suspension is enforced until the investigations into the deaths of four individuals who attended a New Year Eve's concert in Sunway Lagoon are completed.
