Update 11am, 9 Nov: A press conference was aired at 11am on Facebook which answered some questions behind the issues faced by the LRT stations.
In the press conference, Rapidrail mentioned that they’re working with OEM providers in Canada to solve the issue online and currently the technicians are on the way from Toronto and will arrive tomorrow (9 Nov).
The problem stems from the signalling and communication between the train and the vehicle control centre which informs the control centre about the location of a train at a given time.
In the announcement, Group CEO of Prasarana Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah revealed that the solution for the issue has been found but a root cause could not be identified, hence the 7-day shutdown.
Rapid Bus CEO Muhammad Yazurin Sallij announced that more than 80 busses have been deployed to aid stranded travellers.
RapidKL has announced that the Kelana Jaya LRT line service between the Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park stations will be suspended starting today until 15 November. This will include transport hubs such as KL Sentral and Pasar Seni as well as the city centre areas such as KLCC.
A total of 22 stations will be operating as usual, but their services will be ending earlier, at 11.00pm.
This news came after commuters recently found themselves stranded at LRT train stations with few alternatives to make their way around KL.
Even the feeder buses were insufficient to cater to the number of people waiting, as huge crowds were seen forming around a bus at the Damai LRT station, as posted by a Twitter user.
RapidKL has updated their Facebook page that free feeder bus services will be provided for several stations on the LRT Kelana Jaya line, but many commuters have raised concerns that these will be insufficient to cater to the large volume of people that use the train services each day.
RapidKL has also posted a statement on their Facebook page which said that the cause of this was a disruption to the Automatic Train Control System (ATC) on the Kelana Jaya LRT line service.
Many users are angry and upset at the disruptions, and have stated that merely providing bus services are insufficient to address the issue.
Are commuters refunded for their trips?
How exactly should riders get compensation for lost time?
Why is there the huge incompetency and delay in resolving the issue?
