That's because Channel News Asia reported that SIA has banned some older models of Apple's atas laptop because they pose fire risks.
In June, Apple has called for a recall of a "limited number" of 15-inch MacBook Pro units, sold between September 2015 and February 2017, as their batteries were susceptible to overheating.
As such, passengers are not allowed to bring the affected model on board, either as hand-carry or in checked baggage, until they have the battery replaced or verified safe, SIA said in a statement.
Using a Macbook Pro and you don't know how to check if your model is affected? Follow these easy steps:
- On your Macbook, click on the Apple menu on the top left hand side and select 'About This Mac'
- Check the make and model of your Macbook
- If it says 'MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)', copy your laptop's serial number
- Click on this link and insert your serial number to see if it's eligible for a battery replacement
If your Macbook Pro is eligible for a battery replacement, bring it to an Apple Authorised Service Provider near you to have your battery replaced free of charge.
Besides SIA, Thai Airways has also banned the same Macbook Pro model from all of their flights. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, too, has banned the model.
The good news is, the ban does not affect newer Macbook Pro models or any other Macbook laptop models, in fact.
