After three years living with the COVID-19 pandemic, it's now second nature to check in with your MySejahtera app and undergo a temperature scan before entering a public space.

Well, soon, you'll only need to do one of those things.

Revision to SOP list

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced on Thursday (20 January) that mandatory temperature checks will be removed from the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) governing entry to public places soon.

Khairy told New Straits Times that the proposal will be tabled at the next National Security Council for approval and revision.

However, he did not mention when this will come into effect.

"The ministry has agreed for temperature checks to be taken out from the existing SOP.

"After it is amended in the next COVID-19 Quartet Ministerial Meeting, it will no longer be compulsory for premises to have temperature checks," he was quoted as saying.

However, Khairy maintains that it was still mandatory for premises to provide MySejahtera check-ins as well as ensure patrons were fully vaccinated before allowing entry.

On top of that, Khairy added that the Ministry is also planning to do away with the use of log books at premises.

This came after many questioned the relevance of temperature scanners and log books as new COVID-19 cases were mostly mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic altogether.

What do you guys think? Do you think temperature scans should remain mandatory?
