Still Unsure What You Can Buy With the RM100 SARA Aid? Here's What You Can & Can't Spend It On!
By now, you’ve probably heard about the special announcement made by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In addition to the extra public holiday on September 15 and the reduced price of RON95, Anwar also announced that every Malaysian aged 18 and above will receive a one-off RM100 SARA credit on August 31, 2025.

Here’s everything you need to know about SARA and how to use it:

What is SARA?

SARA, short for Sumbangan Asas Rahmah, is a government cash aid initiative designed to help Malaysians cope with the rising cost of living. Under this programme, a one-off RM100 credit will be automatically credited to the MyKad of every Malaysian aged 18 and above.
Anwar announced the aid in conjunction with National Day on August 31, describing it as both a gesture of appreciation and an immediate relief measure for the rakyat.

The initiative is expected to benefit 22 million Malaysians, with a total allocation of RM2 billion. It marks a historic moment as it’s the first time cash aid is extended to all adult citizens, regardless of income level or household status.
You can use the SARA credit at over 4,100 stores across Malaysia to purchase essential goods. These include major supermarkets like Giant, Mydin, HeroMarket, and more.
Unused funds will be reallocated at the end of the year to support vulnerable groups in 2026, ensuring that the aid continues to serve those who need it most

How to use SARA

Just like using a debit or credit card, SARA operates via cashless transactions. The RM100 SARA credit is valid from August 31 to December 31, 2025.
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
  1. Pick your essentials: You can only use SARA to buy items from 14 approved categories marked with the SARA and MyKasih label.
  2. Show your MyKad: The cashier will verify your eligibility using your MyKad.
  3. Change your PIN: Update the temporary PIN (the first 6 digits of your MyKad) to a new one.
  4. Scan the products: The cashier will scan your selected items. Only eligible products will be deducted from your SARA credit.
  5. Pay with MyKad: Enter your PIN to complete the transaction.
  6. Keep the receipt: Save it for tracking your balance and purchases.
