Admit it, whenever you are caught in an awkward situation – be it at a boring party, stuck in a conversation with a group of people you barely know or when you see someone you know but haven’t spoken to in years - there’s only one way out: pretend to be busy with your phone.

And you’re actually not alone; a survey conducted by Kaspersky Lab found that 75 per cent of respondents revealed that they always pretend to use or play with their mobile phones to avoid any interaction with other people.

Atleast you can scroll Instagram than having to pretend to be interested in a conversation.
Doing so also serves as a distraction without trying so hard to look like you’re busy or trying to avoid awkward eye contact.

The survey also illustrates how dependent on our mobile devices we are as 34 per cent of respondents were afraid they can’t entertain themselves without their devices while 12 per cent were worried that if their devices malfunctioned, they cannot “pretend to be busy”.

Well, let’s be real, almost all of us do this especially introverts because pretending to be busy on your phone is far easier than trying to strike up or maintain a conversation with someone.

So, are you team #pretendtobebusy or team #strikeupaconversation?
