Video of one animal that helps most
According to a report in AFP-Relaxnews, this is especially true when it comes to watching videos of quokkas, which are dubbed the happiest animals in the world.
The study, conducted by the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom in partnership with tourist site Western Australia, tested 19 participants who displayed a significant reduction in stress after watching animal videos for just 30 minutes.
During the 30 minutes, the participants' average heart rate decreased by 6.65 per cent from 72.2 bpm (beats per minute) to 67.4 bpm while their blood pressure decreased by an average of 14.9 per cent in systolic pressure and up to 18.28 per cent in diastolic pressure.
Moreover, the level of anxiety decreased on average by 35.1 per cent.
Those are some pretty big numbers!
According to the study, the participants reacted more to videos of cute animals, as opposed to just looking at photographs.
Watching videos of quokkas, the study revealed, were particularly effective.
