And now, he’s setting another record after being shortlisted for an award aimed for young leaders.
Up against 14 others
Syed Saddiq has been nominated for the ‘Politician of the Year’ Award by One Young World, a global forum for young leaders based in Munich, Germany.The Muar MP is up against 14 other young politicians around the world.
According to the organisation, he was selected due to his work as the then-Minister of Youth and Sports, as he initiated the Yellow R Project (Projek Reben Kuning) aimed to give second chances at employment to young ex-convicts.
“The One Young World Politician of the Year Award recognises five of the world's most outstanding politicians between the ages of 18 - 35, who are using their positions to have a positive impact on young people in their communities and countries.
"Through their important work, these candidates highlight the benefit of including young people in politics,” the organisation wrote on their website.
Five winners will be selected out of the 15 in mid-July and an award ceremony will take place at the One Young World 2021 Summit in Munich.
Besides Syed Saddiq, other Asian countries that made the list are Japan and the Philippines.
The 27-year-old politician responded to the news via a post on his social media accounts, thanking1 his ‘family’ at the Ministry of Youth and Sports for working with him in putting together the Projek Ribbon Kuning to make it a reality.
"To the youths out there, I am confident that you are the future. Believe that all the time and efforts you put in for the country will bear fruit," he said.
