The idea was the brainchild of the homeowner, A Bakar Che Ahmad, better known as Pokwe. According to reports, the floating house was first completed on September 16, 2022 and had managed to withstand the flooding which happened in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The floating house located in Kampung Terbak Batu 16, Kemaman reportedly cost RM47,000 and more than 60 plastic drums to build. Pokwe himself built the house with the help of his seven children and in-laws.

Pokwe said his idea to build the floating house emerged after he managed to makeshift a similar-looking floating chicken coop back in 2019.

The floating house has not only captured the attention of internet users but also a Member of Legislative Assembly (ADUN), Mohd Hafiz Adam. He took to social media to post about the floating home which had since gone viral.

Despite applauding the home for successfully floating for 3 consecutive years, Mohd Hafiz urged Pokwe and his family to move elsewhere so that it would be easier for aid to reach them.

Here's what netizens have to say about Pokwe's floating house:

"Congratulations. What a good idea. All of their items and their home are safe from the floods," commented a user.
