Our previous reporting on the Luxentic_bagg Instagram scammers brought up a lot of conversation in our Inboxes and in the comments. One comment in particular pointed us towards this Instagram account Scammedbynathinaa that has been collecting scammers and showing them on the page since October 2020.

Luxentic_bagg was reported on the page since October of 2021.

scammer in malaysia

The first post was for an IG seller named luxury_nathinaa whose account has since been closed. The seller used fake photos from eBay and blocked the victim on IG and Whatsapp.

From then on, the account Scammedbynathinaa tracked multiple IG accounts that used stolen photos to advertise non-existent handbags. The account holder also tracked scam accounts as they shut down and changed names over time.

Going through the confessions of users, one admitted to losing RM67,000 when they tried to buy a Rolex watch from the page @theluxuriousmy which has now been disabled.

What can we do?

If you've been a victim of a scam, dont feel like you can't speak up. There's no shame in being scammed. Report your case to the police and ensure the bank information is reported as well.

Even though you won't be able to recover your money, collective effort from the community can help the police tie the mule accounts together and nab the ring leader, like Nicky Liow whose downfall was due to a RM1,500 phone.

Check Semak Mule and insert the phone number and bank accounts details. Sometimes there are no reports on those accounts used, but follow the guide by Scammedbynathinaa as well to gain more certainty. If any doubt lingers, don't proceed. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

We would like to compile a database of more scam accounts and we need your help to make more noise. Already, a reader of Rojak Daily sent in the Instagram account laptop_sejahtera that scams people with laptops so the potential that there may be thousands of scammers on Instagram is there.

Fill in this Google Form so we can track the name of the Instagram account, bank accounts used, and their phone numbers.

Please also continue to DM us on Facebook or Instagram with your stories so that we can shine more of a light on this ongoing epidemic of scammers in Malaysia.
