The Crown Prince of Johor has spoken again, and this time, he is putting an end to race-based football associations in the state.
Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has reportedly dissolved all Malay, Chinese and Indian football associations with immediate effect.
According to a report by The Star, Tunku Ismail, who is also the owner of the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football club and president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), instructed that all football clubs will be placed under the Johor Football Association (JFA).
“The Sultan of Johor has been making the state an example of unity, and therefore there is no need for different organisations when all can be affiliated football clubs under the JFA,” he said, as reported by The Star.
However, the three associations will reportedly be allowed to rebrand themselves as clubs and compete in the state’s district leagues under JFA.
Tunku Ismail made this announcement at the JDT congress held on Wednesday.
“Regardless of your faith and your skin colour, you are Bangsa Johor and JDT symbolises that,” he added.
