The Transport Ministry Wants To Stop Giving Out Discounts For Your Traffic Summonses

A traffic summons is something many motorists here fail to avoid. Just drive around Malaysia, especially in a city like Kuala Lumpur, and you'll understand why.

We do everything in our power to not succumb to road rage every day.

It's not that we're trying to avoid paying our summonses or anything, but we know a lot of people often wait 'til the eleventh hour (a.k.a. when discounts are being offered) to pay their dues because, hey, who doesn't love discounts?

Unfortunately, that may stop happening for us very soon.

According to The Star, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that the Transport Ministry will be speaking to the police and local authorities to stop offering traffic summonses discounts, beginning with the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Why? Because we don't know how to appreciate nice things.

The ministry wants to implement a similar policy and consistency across the board.

With this kind of traffic, how to be calm?

To put it simply, they want to scare you into abiding by the traffic rules and at the same time reduce the number of road accidents in this "climate of fear".

"We don't want to send the wrong message to the public. If there is a discount, they will not be bothered if penalised for their offences," Loke said.

JPJ has issued a total of 90,000 AES summonses since 1 September last year but only 10,000 people settled their dues.

What happened to the rest?
