A majority of Malaysians have been confined to their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the world.

With a lot of free time to spare, many Malaysians ended up cooking all sorts of things to keep them busy.

According to a report in Malay Mail, Google Malaysia said we came out tops as the country that searched for the most recipes in 2020.

The top three most-searched-for recipes were Dalgona Coffee, followed by Dalgona Milo, and Biscoff Cheesecake.

The list continues with Tornado Cake, Marble Jelita Cake, youtiao, kuih Cek Mek Molek, apam balik, taufufa and Burnt Cheesecake.

A COVID-filled year

“2020 has undoubtedly been a unique year and the trending search terms in our Year in Search lists reflect that — from being concerned citizens of the world, to an increased search for digital learning tools as schools closed nationwide,” Google Malaysia consumer products communications manager Nadia Khan said in a press release.

She also said that Malaysians also turned to food as a newfound hobby, for comfort, or as a new business venture with the highest search interest for recipes in the world.

Apart from food, Google Malaysia’s annual Year in Search lists for 2020 also revealed that "coronavirus" was the most searched COVID-19 term.

This was followed by "Covid-19 Malaysia", "thank you coronavirus helpers", "coronavirus tips", "coronavirus update" and "Wuhan virus".

Notably, the US Election 2020 is Google Malaysia’s top 2020 search
