Tun Dr. Mahathir Listed In Fortune's ‘Top 50 Greatest Leaders In The World’ List
Ever since Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad returned to the office for a historic second time, his list of achievements and accolades have been growing rapidly.
And to kick off the week, our Prime Minister, who’s also fondly known as Tun M, has been listed as one of Fortune magazine’s top 50 greatest world leaders.
The world’s oldest leader made it to the 47th spot, with the magazine describing him as someone "who is writing an unexpected chapter in his legacy”.
Tun M was also credited for turning Malaysia into “one of Southeast Asia’s economic tigers” during his 22-year tenure as Prime Minister, from 1981 to 2003.
“Mahathir and his party are now moving to protect judicial independence and press freedom, recognizing that they help keep a democracy honest.”
The list was created to recognise leaders who use their power and influence to make the world a better place.
They are identified in different areas such as business, government, philanthropy, and the arts.
Topping the list is power duo Bill and Melinda Gates, followed by New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, recognised for “her fullness as a leader as she deftly, empathetically, and humbly navigated New Zealand through the worst terror attack in its history”.
Other notable and influential leaders on the list were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the 42nd spot, actor Michael J. Fox at the 22nd spot, and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple at the 14th spot.
