The oldest elected government leader in the world, Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is easily one of the most respected and most influential people in the world.
We mean, it's not hard to see why a lot of people look up to him: he's 94 years old and he's still working really hard to save the country that he loves.
A recent study shows that Malaysians really do think highly of him.
Bernama reported that the finding was made by British market research firm YouGov’s annual study of which public figures people look up to.
The study, according to the news agency, was based on a survey conducted on 1,075 Malaysians.
Second in the list after Tun M was Malaysia’s first astronaut Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor while Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan made third place.
Also included in the list were retired badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and United States President Barack Obama.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo round up the top ten.
In the females list, meanwhile, Malaysia’s darling songstress, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, took the top spot while the wife of Dr Mahathir, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and Malaysia’s first female Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, took the second and third spots respectively.
Other women in the top ten list include co-founder of FashionValet and The dUCk Group Datin Vivy Yusof, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, Hollywood actresses Angelina Jolie and Emma Watson, singer Taylor Swift, First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama as well as Queen Elizabeth II.
The study, conducted in December last year, simply asked “Thinking about people alive in the world today, which man or woman do you most admire?” These answers were then used to compile the list of the most admired people.
Well, it's good to know that alot of Malaysians are looking up to our Prime Minister. It means that he must have done something right.
