Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah Named As The New Sultan Of Kedah
Malaysians, especially Kedah natives, were in somber mood following the demise of their beloved Sultan, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, who passed away at 2.30pm on Monday.
His Royal Highness was 89 years old and had ruled Kedah for 59 years.
The question of who will succeed his throne was finally answered after Kedah’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, made an announcement at Istana Anak Bukit that Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah has been appointed as the 29th Sultan of Kedah.
Tunku Sallehuddin is the younger brother of the late Sultan Abdul Halim. The throne was succeeded to him as the late Sultan did not have any sons and the decision was also approved by the Kedah Royal Members during a meeting on Monday.
Almarhum Sultan Kedah will be laid to rest between the grave of his late wife, Almarhumah Sultanah Bahiyah and the grave of His Royal Highness’ younger brother, Almarhum Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah.
