2020 has been a tough year for everyone.

And just recently, 2020 has taken from us a friendly face that we used to know: Uncle David, or also known as the Pokémon Uncle.

Goodbye, Uncle David

Rest in peace, Uncle David.
Uncle David's plight first came to light when an irresponsible buyer failed to turn up to buy 250 Pokémon plush toys he ordered from him back in 2016.

However, thanks to the power of social media, caring and kind-hearted Malaysians flocked to Uncle David's makeshift 'stall' outside of the HSBC Bank in Damansara Uptown and helped him clear 250 plushies in less than two hours.

Even though the Pokémon hype has died down, Uncle David can still be found plying his trade at the same spot for the past 19 years - well, until recently.

A Facebook user by the name of June Lim posted an update on her Facebook account, saying that Uncle David has passed away from his illness recently.

"The last time I saw you was in the hospital. This morning, I learned that you were gone, and I did not get to say goodbye," Lim wrote in the post.

Lim had reportedly befriended Uncle David since 2005, and she would drop by occasionally to check up on him.

Uncle David reportedly suffered a bad fall, making it difficult for him to walk around and set up shop. The Movement Control Order (MCO) also did not help either.

On top of that, Lim also revealed that Uncle David was hospitalised in June for a heart condition.

Uncle David and his plushies.
Uncle David has been diagnosed with leukemia in March 2015, and he was only given six months to live.

Chemo has taken its toll on his body and he doesn't have the energy to drive, so he takes public transport from Cheras to Damansara Uptown to sell his wares.

Selling the Pokémon plushies enabled him to make a living for himself.

Goodbye, Uncle David. We hope you're in a better place now.
