The 31st SEA Games is officially on the way and the best and brightest in the nation are already in Vietnam taking home gold medals.

We'll be following all the winners throughout the games that will end no 23 May 2022.

As of 12 May: 9 golds

• Malaysia has made a clean sweep of the diving event. The Malaysian consort won the gold in all four events for the Men and Women: 1 metre springboard, 3 metre springboard, Synchronised 3 metre springboard, Synchronised 10 metre platform.
• Congratulations to: Ooi Tze Liang, Muhammad Syafiq Puteh, Chew Yiwei, Jellson Jabillin, Hanis Nazirul Jaya Surya, Nur Dhabitah Sabri, Ng Yan Yee, Ong Ker Yin, Pandalela Rinong, and Nur Dhabitah Sabri.
• Malaysian Pencak Silat duo bagged the gold for the Men's double event. Congratulations Mohd Taqiyuddin Hamid and Sazlan Yuga.

As of 13 May: 11 golds

• In the Wushu event Clement Ting Su Wei and Tan Zhi Yan earn golds for Changquan and Taiijiquan events respectively

As of 14 May: 13 golds

• Malaysia's youngest SEA Games participant Grace Wong earned a gold in the hammer throw event together with Jackie Wong Siew Cheer who also participated in the event. Two golds for the day ends the tally to 13 golds.
• Grace won the event with a throw of 57.30m. The Sarawakian however, holds the national record of 62.48m.

As of 15 May: 16 golds

• Ervin Chang became the first Malaysian to win gold at a Men's Individual golf event. Ervin went against Indonesia's Amadeus Christian Susanto in a three-hole playoff for the men's individual title, emerging as champion on May 15.
• National gymnast Rachel Yeoh Li Wen won gold for the uneven bars event. The 23-year-old from Penang scored 13.000 points, defeating favourites Rifda Irfanaluthfi from Indonesia and Aleah Finnegan from the Philippines on the games on May 15. She also brings home a bronze medal for the individual all-around event.
• It may be his debut at the SEA Games, but national bodybuilder Mohd Syarul Azman Mahen Abdullah impressed the judges with his muscle mass and body symmetry to walk away with the gold medal in the men’s Athletics Physique category on May 15.

As of 16 May: 19 golds

• Silat athlete Muhammad Khairi Adib Azhar secures a gold medal at the Pencak Silat event for the Tanding Class B (50 – 55kg).
• Rachel Yeoh claimed her second gold medal, this time for the balance beam event.
• Finally in the pole vaulting event, Nor Sarah Adi ends Malaysia's 11-year year wait for gold.

As of 17 May: 23 golds

• We're up to an even 20 after cyclists Ahmad Syazrin Awang Ilah, Zulfikri Zulkifli, Natahsya Soon and Nur Assyira Zainal Abidin crossed the finish line at the mixed cross country relay event.
• Next, Malaysia earned 2 golds at the Athletics' Men's Triple Jump and Men's discus throw courtesy of Andre Anura Anuar and Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin respectively.
• Kok Leong Lim gave the 23rd gold at the Billiards Men's Snooker 6-Red Singles

As of 18 May: 27 golds

• The second gold in a golfing event comes from the Men's Team comprising of solo star Ervin Chang together with Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi and Marcus Lim Pang Chuen
• The Karate event brings in 2 gold for Malaysia from the Men's 67kg kumite and Women's 50kg kumite by Sankar Sureeya Sankar Hari and Shahmalarani Chandran respectively
• Khiew Hoe Yean wins Malaysia's first swimming gold beating out the event's favourites, Singapore in the 200m freestyle

As of 19 May: 34 golds

• A total of 7 golds bring Malaysia above the 30 mark.
• Archery brought in two golds courtesy of Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki in the Men's individual compound and Mixed Compound Team with Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh
• Another two golds came in by way of the Gymnastics event: Rhytmic individual all-around and Rhytmic group all-around with the gold heading to Koi Sie Yan and the team of Shak Yuki, Jingle Shak Qi, Maia Xiao Han Ong, Ashley Xin Yi Lim, and Yi Tung Yap respectively
• Next up, Karate and Tae Kwon Do events receive a gold medal each from Sharmendran Raghonathan in the Men's 75kg kumite and Muhammad Syafiq Zuber in the Men's Kyorugi Welterweight 80 kg
• Men's air pistol event received one gold courtesy of Jonathan Wong Guan Jie in the 10m air pistol

As of 20 May: 36 golds

• Nurul Syasya Nadiah Mohd Ariffin cycles her way to a gold at the Women's Road Time Trial
• The Men''s Team Kumite in the Karate event nets Malaysia another gold thanks to Sharmendran Raghonathan, Prem Kumar Selvam, and Sankar Sureeya Sankar Hari

As of 21 May: 37 golds

• Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff netts Malaysia another gold in cycling for the Men's Road Race event
• The Men''s Team Kumite in the Karate event nets Malaysia another gold thanks to Sharmendran Raghonathan, Prem Kumar Selvam, and Sankar Sureeya Sankar Hari

As of 22 May: 39 golds

• Malaysia ends its 23-year wait for gold at the badminton mixed doubles event thanks to superstars Chen Tang Jie and Peck Yen Wei. The last time Malaysia scored a gold was in 1999!
• Ahmad Nor Iman bags the gold in the Men's Combat 54kg event in Muay Thai

That wraps up the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi! Our Malaysians showed a valiant effort with many first-time golds achieved and many more records broken. We celebrate our athletes and wish them all the best in the Olympics next. Up, up and away!
