Imagine you're walking in the park and you hear some robotic sound from behind you.

You turn and see this robot dog inching closer and a pre-recorded voice telling you to keep a safe social distance.

It's not some sci-fi movie guys, it's actually happening in Singapore.

According to CNN Business, the government there has decided to use Spot, a yellow and black canine robot "dog" to remind residents to keep a safe distance from each other.

More than just reminders

Spot is equipped with cameras and can even scan its surroundings.

It can also estimate the number of people in the area and send back information to the authorities.

"Unlike wheeled robots, Spot works well across different terrains and can navigate obstacles effectively, making it ideal for operation in public parks and gardens," said the Singapore government in a statement.

I see you!

Authorities also assured that the cameras on Spot will not be able to track or recognise specific inviduals and no personal data will be collected.

Spot is set to roam around Singapore parks during off-peak hours for about two weeks as part of a pilot project.

If it works, the robot dog could be a common sight on the island.
