Wait, Is It True That Only Four AWAS Cameras In The Country Are Functioning?

That is why the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) enforcement cameras are placed nationwide to help road users drive more cautiously.

However, recently, a news report claimed that only four AWAS cameras in the country are functioning and the others are in disrepair. The news report also alleged that the Road Transport Department (RTD) has no expertise operating the AWAS camera system.

Don’t start panicking just yet, guys!

RTD has denied the allegations in the news report and clarified that all 41 AWAS cameras in the country are in good condition and in operation.

“The operation of several AWAS cameras was (only) temporarily suspended (recently) as they were (damaged in) accidents, (or were being rewired),” RTD said in a statement quoted by Astro Awani.

RTD also denied that it has no expertise in operating the cameras.

You could say that the whole thing was fake news.
