Wan Azizah Was Actually Offered The Prime Minister Post By The Yang di-Pertuan Agong
It seems that we’re learning more exciting things post-election: from controversial shady businesses that happened behind closed doors involving our politicians to the new government’s swift actions in delivering its promises within the 100-day frame, and of course, Anwar Ibrahim’s historical royal pardon.
And recently, we found out something that is even more interesting.
On Wednesday night, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met his supporters at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya and revealed an interesting fact in his first speech following his pardon – his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was actually offered the Prime Minister post by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
She made history by being the first female DPM! The Star quoted the PKR leader as saying that she the post was offered to her as her party won the most seats during the 14th General Election.
However, Wan Azizah turned down the offer as they had already made a deal that Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will be elected the Prime Minister should they win the election.
The King was impressed with the party’s persistency and said that “it is seldom that we see politicians hold on to their promises.”
Azmin Ali, Anwar Ibrahim, and Wan Azizah at the royal pardoning ceremony with the King. During an audience with the royal, the deputy prime minister also made a request to King and pleaded that her husband be released immediately to which the King responded by saying he will “do it as fast as possible”.
We’re really happy to see the unity in the new government and may it prosper for many years to come!
