When you were little, your teacher probably gave you and your classmates a task: draw your vision of Wawasan 2020.

Our imaginations ran wild and we poured our creative hearts out by drawing the KL Tower, KLCC, some robots, gadgets, and of course, flying cars. We believed back then that in 20 years or more, Malaysia and the world would evolve and we’ll be driving flying cars.

Fast forward to 2019, nothing much has changed, to be honest, apart from the boom of the digital era. Flying cars, unfortunately, are somewhat still a dream.

This is the future.
Well, it seems that that dream may just turn into a reality because the government has revealed that they already have the first flying car prototype ready.

Bernama reported that Malaysia will unveil its first ever flying car prototype this year.

Minister of Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said the prototype has already been completed and available.

“This year is a realistic target because we have the technology already. It is all about speed of implementation,” Mohd Redzuan said.

It will cost over RM1 million to build the prototype, which, according to Mohd Redzuan, will be using local technology.

Let's just hope the final look of flying cars won't look like this.
“The car would be safe and capable of flying at low altitudes at a reasonable speed,” he added.

The long-anticipated national project will also utilise the country’s capabilities in the aerospace, drone, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and automotive sectors.

Maybe the car would just look like this, not too futuristic as we expected.
“Malaysia has the skill set to excel in all these fields. We need to make full use of it, because the bottom line is we want to be a producing nation.”

We can’t wait to see how the prototype looks and works like. What do you think it’ll look like? Will it have a super futuristic name or a classic one? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
