Will You Get Fined If You Drive With Your Sunglasses On? Top Cop Provides The Answer
The weather in Malaysia is, no doubt, crazy hot.
The sun is always beating down on us, and it's perfectly fine to wear a pair of sunglasses to protect those beautiful eyes of yours.
Or is it?
Legal or illegal?
Recently, a message saying that the police will be issuing summons to drivers who wear sunglasses while driving has gone viral on messaging app WhatsApp.The viral message alleged that any driver -- be it a car, a lorry or a bus -- caught wearing sunglasses while behind the wheel will be issued with a RM500 compound.
The message also contained an audio clip of a first hand encounter from a driver who received the compound for the alleged offence.
So, can we or can we not wear sunglasses while driving? Is it actually an offence?
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy director Datuk Mohd Nadzri Hussain told Bernama that the allegation is false and unfounded.
Mohd Nadzri added that there is no provision in the law that states that it's illegal to wear sunglasses while driving.
The audio clip is also fake, he added.
"The person in the audio clip also claimed that he was fined for such an offence. These claims are not true and totally baseless," he was quoted as saying.
Therefore, Mohd Nadzri advised Malaysians to not believe everything they read on social media, and to stop forwarding false messages.
Now that you know it's perfectly legal to wear sunglasses while driving, go ahead and put on one - or two.
