2020 has finally come to an end, and a lot of us are wishing for good things in 2021.

And just three days into the new year, we got some good news.

Winter is definitely here

Malaysians were greeted by cold temperatures in most parts of the country, and officials said the sweater weather is here to stay for at least a couple of months.

According to a report by Malay Mail, the country is currently experiencing abnormally cold weather due to the northeast monsoon season, commonly known as the ‘winter monsoon’.

Therefore, we can expect lots of rain, overcast skies and even some mist in certain places.

In fact, temperatures dropped to as low as 23 degrees Celsius in certain parts of the Klang Valley on Sunday (3 January)!

The lowest temperature recorded was in Cameron Highlands, at 17 degrees Celsius.

We certainly can get used to this.

Here are more good news: the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said that the winter monsoon, which reportedly started on 11 November last year, is expected to last until March.

“During this period, the country will receive a steady north-easterly wind with occasional strong winds, with speeds of between 10 and 20 kilometres per hour.

“A series of heavy rainfalls are expected to occur mainly in the east coast states of the Peninsula, west Sarawak and east Sabah,” it said.

It's officially sweater weather now, you guys! Enjoy!
