Woman Gets Flak After Influencer Buys Her Macbook, Turns Out It Was All Fake
Recently, a video (which has since been taken down) went viral on TikTok when an influencer was seen buying a woman a brand-new Apple MacBook as a ‘mystery gift’.
In the video, the influencer went around asking strangers in a mall if they wanted RM1 or a mystery gift. One woman chose the mystery gift option and was given a slip of paper which read that she could choose any gift above RM250.
The influencer told the woman that she could buy anything at all that she wanted. The woman then quickly pointed to a Switch store. At the store, the woman then pointed to a MacBook to which the influencer seemed taken aback and pointed to its exorbitant price.
The staff at Switch took out the woman’s selected model and the influencer seemed to reluctantly agree to it. She then asked the woman how she felt.
The woman said that she was so happy she was at a loss for words. They were seen at the counter where the woman happily walked away with the MacBook while the influencer jokingly appeared to cry.
After the video went viral, the woman received severe backlash for her actions as many people slammed her for choosing such an extravagant gift and called her a ‘gold digger’. This forced the woman to confess that she hadn’t actually been given the MacBook but only RM100 to create fake content.she saw the opportunity and she took it? pic.twitter.com/275GjM8bqm— AL (@ciraplaici) January 14, 2024
In a since-deleted Tweet, she stepped forward saying that she was the woman and that she had been slammed by many netizens for her ‘mystery gift’ selection. However, she had been hired for only RM100 and she had never expected the matter to blow up to this extent.
She also lamented she had received messages from netizens saying she was fat, too lazy to work, could never be anyone’s wife, and more. She said that she was sad to see such negative comments as no one knew that it was only for content.
She said that she would never forgive anyone who had left her such comments as she was only human and had a heart and feelings. She thanked those who stayed positive and explained that it was technically above RM250 so even if it was real, it shouldn’t be a problem only that there were too many bitter netizens.
