World Vision Malaysia Turns 20 and Has Helped More Than 57,000 Kids Around the World

World Vision Malaysia (WVM) is celebrating 20 years in Malaysia with a renewed vision to continue propagating change and building a sustainable future for marginalised children and communities in poverty.

Since it was established in 1997, WVM has helped countless children and families gain access to education, basic healthcare, clean water, nutrition and more through their child sponsorship programme. Today, over 43,000 Malaysians are sponsoring more than 57,000 marginalised children and communities in 15 countries. The organisation has also empowered women by helping them improve their skills and sell their produce and crafts through vocational training.

In conjunction with its 20th anniversary, WVM will be rolling out several initiatives that will enable the NGO to continue reaching out to children, families and communities in need. Each initiative will pay tribute to those who have supported WVM in community development, relief and advocacy.

The theme for WVM’s 20th anniversary, ‘Giving Hope, Changing Lives’, will span till September 2017. Some of the activities outlined are:

• 20A Ambassadors: To honour 20 sponsors, donors, volunteers and partners who have who journeyed alongside the NGO to bring change and hope to the lives of thousands.
• Changing 6,000 Lives in 200 Days: A campaign to find sponsors for 6,000 children via WVM’s Child Sponsorship Programme and give them hope for a better future.
• LOVE.CHILDREN: A collaboration with renowned Malaysian fashion designers Datuk Zang Toi, Eric Choong, Beatrice Looi and Venie Tee to underscore the importance of giving children LOVE and HOPE in the form of a specially-designed, limited edition t-shirt line called LOVE.CHILDREN. • Love Conquers All: A charity dinner headlined by actor and comedian Gurmit Singh, Francissca Peter and sand artist extraordinaire Loong Bee.
