A local university has developed a mobile application that could make your visits to the mamak a lot shorter.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) came up with an app called Smart Mamak that allows you to order roti canai or maggi mee goreng from your favourite mamak restaurant no matter where you are.

All you have to do is pick up your food at the restaurant when it's ready or whenever it’s convenient for you without having to wait too long.

Sorry, there is no delivery service included for now.

According to UKM deputy vice chancellor in research and innovation Professor Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman, the purpose of Smart Mamak is to lessen the dependence on foreign workers, reduce costs and increase profits at mamak restaurants.

The app also allows you to review the restaurants based on a few criteria, including hygiene, after which the Malaysia Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) will rate the restaurants.

At the moment, Smart Mamak is being tested out at Restoran Ali Maju in Precinct 2, Putrajaya. But Presma is targeting all 4,000 restaurants registered under them to be onboard soon.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh launched the app at Restoran Ali Maju on Monday.
The app was created by UKM’s Information Technology and Systems Faculty, Social and Humanities Faculty, and Economy and Commerce Faculty in collaboration with Presma.

So what do you think? Would a mobile app like this help make your mamak experience more enjoyable?
