The Selangor police will be setting up more "mobile" roadblocks in the state to prevent Malaysians from illegally crossing state and district borders, Malaysiakini reported.Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed told Media Selangor that they will be deploying thousands of police officers to operate both mobile and static roadblocks across the state, which saw a total of 34 subdistricts being placed under EMCO.
According to Arjunaidi, the Selangor police will set up 140 static roadblocks at several hotspots where border-crossing is rampant.
"At the same time, we will set up mobile roadblocks that will move from one place to another. If we only stay in one spot, people will know (where we are).
"We will continue to move from one place to another, and we will check for those who try to or who have already crossed into areas they are not supposed to," he was quoted as saying.
Out of the state's 14,000 police officers, Arjunaidi said 80 per cent will be mobilised to man roadblocks and conduct COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) enforcement operations.
Strict rules
Arjunaidi warned Malaysians that there will be no compromises for those who try to sneak past state borders without permission from the relevant ministries."If they have yet to cross the border, we will instruct them to turn back.
"If they have already crossed the border, we will compound them and instruct them to turn back. Because this means they have committed an offence," he explained.
Under the latest rules set by the government, those found guilty of breaching the SOPs can be compounded up to RM10,000.
