Dewan Rakyat has recently passed an amendment to The Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Bill 2019, and in the process, they just made everyone feel older.
Accordint to a report by Astro Awani, the amendment was made mainly to change the definition of “youth” - by lowering the age from 40 to 30.
Before this, 'youth' was defined as a person between the ages of 15 and 40.
The amendment includes the shortening of the period to hold office as head of a youth society from six years to four years.
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq told the news portal that the transition period after the amended Bill is gazetted will begin on 31 December 2021.
Syed said the amendment will have a positive implication on youth development, as it will reduce the generation gap.
