(REVIEW) Mr. Makii Man: The Go-To for Fresh & Fulfilling Sushi Maki Rolls
Calling all sushi maki roll lovers!
If you're wondering where to go food hunting for some mouth-watering sushi maki rolls, you might want to check out Mr. Makii Man. They pride themselves on serving freshly made upon order sushi maki rolls. Currently, they have outlets located in IOI City Mall and Suria KLCC.
We recently tried out their exclusive Party Box menu that can feed up to 6-7 pax. Here's what we think of it:
The appetisers
The Party Box comes with 4 maki rolls, inari sushi, edamame and 3 sauces: truffle mayo, sambal hijau and mala sauce.
Before we jumped straight into the maki rolls, we tried out their edamame and inari sushi. To be honest, both of them tasted pretty average, like the ones that you can find at your local sushi restaurants. But dipping the inari sushi into the truffle mayo was an amazing choice, as the sauce tasted really rich. If you are a truffle lover, you should definitely try this sauce.
Abundance of maki rolls
Jumping into the main course, each maki roll comes with seven pieces inside the box. The first maki roll we tried was called New York: Triple Threat, and it comes with crabstick, egg and radish. It was topped with fish flakes and some sauces.
Overall, The New York: Triple Threat maki roll is already pretty saucy on its own, so we thought it was already perfect without having to dip inside any of the sauces so as not to take away the sweetness of the egg and radish inside.
Next, we tried the Beijing: Smoked Duck maki roll. Initially, we were a bit unsure of this maki since we aren't huge fans of duck meat, but Mr. Makii Man manages to prove us wrong.
Although it's a bit dry, the duck meat inside the maki roll is very well seasoned, and pairing this maki roll with the mala sauce really elevates the taste. Oh, did we mention this maki roll also has bits of salmon pieces as toppings? Yum!
We also tried the Dubai maki roll. Like the other maki rolls, the Dubai one also comes with radish and egg inside, but their choice of protein (aside from the egg, obviously) is a very well-seasoned chicken bite that resembles the taste of shawarma chicken. This maki roll was by far the best to pair with all the sauces given.
Saving the best for last, the Osaka: Salmon Mentaiko maki roll is truly wonderful. Despite its main protein being fish, the salmon inside does not have any overpowering taste that could disrupt the balance with other ingredients. We found that dipping it in the truffle mayo and the mala sauce to be the best pairing, while the sambal hijau overpowers the already delicious maki roll taste.
Our verdict
If you and your friends love sushi maki rolls, the Mr. Makii Man Party Box menu is a must-try. Featuring a variety of proteins that blend perfectly with fresh ingredients and deliciously crafted sauces, this Party Box promises a delightful and fulfilling sushi experience.
