It has been two years since we last saw the crew from FAST & FURIOUS, which is now the sixth-highest grossing movie franchise of all time with eight films in the bag and two more on the way.

Since all the action is such a hit among the fans, why not milk the series for all its worth?

Hence the spin-off, FAST & FURIOUS: HOBBS & SHAW (or just HOBBS & SHAW for short) that will focus on the two characters famously portrayed by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham.

Ever since good-guy-turned-bad Luke Hobbs (Johnson), a Diplomatic Security Service agent, and bad-guy-turned-good Deckard Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative turned mercenary, first came face to face, they have shared an intense dislike towards each other.

However, when a cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of a deadly virus that could alter the future of humanity, the two sworn enemies must now team up to take on the one man who might just be “badder” than themselves.

To make matters more complicated, their love-hate relationship is joined by a fearless rogue MI6 agent Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), who happens to be Shaw’s sister.

Now, if you need some help coping with the FAST & FURIOUS withdrawal symptoms, here are some reasons why you should watch HOBBS & SHAW.

#1 Hobbs and Shaw make the best team ever

Like Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, the bromance between Hobbs and Shaw is undeniable, although they’re a lot rougher than your typical OTP (One True Pairing).

The two have never stopped exchanging smack talk and body blows since they first met. So, we can expect plenty of brilliant insults thrown around even in this latest film.

But setting aside their differences, it will be exciting to watch the two big men force themselves to get along and work together in order to save the world.

#2 Idris Elba plays a cutthroat supervillain

The newest ‘it’ guy in Hollywood, Idris Elba returns to the screen with another role in an action movie. But this time, he is on the bad side of the picture.

The man famously known for his portrayal in more serious films now takes on a brutal international terrorist, which is essentially like “black Superman” (he literally says so himself in the movie, so don’t point a gun at us!).

We don’t know much about the intentions behind this villain besides his attempt to wipe out some of the world’s population with a deadly virus. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to see another bad guy trying to “do good” in his own sick and evil ways.

Watch him battle it out big time with Hobbs and Shaw in the biggest showdown of the year.

#3 Dwayne Johnson returns to his kampung

Did you know that The Rock a.k.a. Malaysia’s favourite Hollywood superstar has Samoan blood?

In HOBBS & SHAW, Johnson gets the opportunity to show off his Samoan heritage when the team is forced to get off the grid and regroup for a new battle plan.

So, Hobbs brought them to his home and prepare to fight with new – or should we say old – weapons. Well, they don’t have much to work with after Mrs. Hobbs threw away all the guns.

We also get a sneak peek of Samoa’s powerful war dance led by the man himself. Now, don’t start picturing all the dance moves you think you know in your head because a war dance is on an entirely different track.

#4 Mind-blowing action

Staying true to the nature of FAST & FURIOUS, we can foresee plenty of explosive action in HOBBS & SHAW. Although it is a spin-off, the movie will still see very big men carrying very big weapons and driving very big cars.

While we probably won’t see another sequence like crashing a luxury sports car through the tallest skyscraper in Dubai, we can still probably expect massive stunts and action sequences that will keep our eyes glued to the screen.

At the end of the day, put some of the biggest action movie stars in the same picture and you know what you will be getting yourself into.

#5 Back to the FAST & FURIOUS universe

Last but not least, we trust that HOBBS & SHAW will whet the appetite of every FAST & FURIOUS fan since it is set within the same universe.

There will be loads of cars to see but with an added over-the-top mayhem, making it like a roller coaster ride. In fact, we think the movie will serve as the perfect appetiser for the next FAST & FURIOUS movie that is set to hit cinemas in 2020.

There you have it, boys and girls; all the reasons you need to purchase tickets to watch HOBBS & SHAW the moment they come out.

If the previous FAST & FURIOUS movies are an indication, we personally think that HOBBS & SHAW will arguably be 2019’s most explosive action movie.
