And the best thing about that is, you don’t even really have to be good at video games! Here’s what you can do:

#1 Live streaming

In this day and age, why play video games alone in your room when you can have millions of people watch you do just that? There are thousands and thousands of people online live streaming their gaming sessions as we speak, because becoming a live streamer is much easier than becoming a pro gamer. In fact, some of them are making more than RM10,000 a month!

All you need to do is to find your niche (horror games, ‘Fortnite’, ‘PUBG’), set up an account on Twitch or YouTube Gaming, hit record and slowly build your audience.

Oh, the most important thing is to be yourself. Nobody likes a live streamer with no personality.

#2 Playtesting

This one’s for all of you out there who wants to play all the latest video games, like, now! Before a video game company releases a new game, they need guinea pigs to test it out.

Playtesters are usually given a copy of the new game in a pre-release state and they are required to play it extensively. A playtester’s key role is to report back to the studio about game-breaking glitches, bugs or generally, any feedback that could help make the game better.

So, if you’re someone who likes to push something to the limit (you rebel, you!), this is the perfect job for you.

#3 Game reviewer

Perhaps the hardest job in the list, you could actually review games for a living. With the emergence of the video game industry (the whole industry could be worth RM534.3 billion by 2020), there’s always a need for video game reviewers as game studios rely on these people to get the good word out.

And it’s pretty easy to get started too: you could either set up a blog or better yet, a YouTube channel. To start off, you could partner up with a local game outlet so that you can get a consistent stream of new games for you to review.

The only downside about this job is, it could be really competitive and you would have to find a way to make your website and your reviews stand out from the rest. Also, it will take years and years to build your reputation as a game reviewer. But hey, if you’re not hustlin’, you’re failin’!

#4 Writing video game guides or walkthroughs

You know how when you’re playing a certain video game, you get stuck at a level and you can’t seem to find the way out (darn you, ‘Half-Life’!)? That’s when guides or walkthroughs come in handy!

With studios aiming to make their games harder and harder, there’s always a need for guides and walkthroughs. If you consider yourself an expert in a certain video game and have a lot of tips and tricks to share, you could consider writing guides for newbies.

Like a game reviewer, you could upload your guides onto your blog or if you have the resources, you could turn it into a video guide and upload them onto YouTube. When you have enough audience for your walkthroughs, you could then monetise them and watch the money roll in.
