Are you currently planning a well-deserved vacation? If so, is Japan on top of your travel bucket list?

If you answered yes to the question, it’s time to clear your calendar and plan your trip to the land of sushi, kimonos and of course, Pokémon.

And before you take the road well-traveled – Mount Fuji, the Tsukiji Fish Market, you get the idea -- why don’t you steer away from those common tourist paths and do something new, fun, and exciting?

You can craft out new adventures at the Land of the Rising Sun, and to help you with that, here’s a list of five super fun, super cool things you can do there.

#1 Race on the streets as a ‘Mario Kart’ character

Pick your favourite character.
You’ve probably seen a few viral photos or videos of people racing on the streets of Tokyo dressed up as ‘Mario Kart’ characters and thinking to yourself: “How? What? Where?!”. Well, the good news is, everyone can participate in the street race which uses custom-built go-karts.

You can drive to your heart’s content and explore the streets of Japan for up to three hours! You can find this attraction in Yokohama, Okinawa, and Osaka, so anytime you’re in those cities, give this unique city tour a try.

#2 Visit the one-of-a-kind Ramen Museum

Perfect for instant noodle fans.
Ever heard of a ramen museum? Neither have we, but it’s not surprising when people say you can find it in Japan. There are three ramen museums you can visit – the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum, the Cup Noodle Museum, and the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum; all three are equally interesting.

You can check out all the types of ramen and cup noodles ever introduced in history; from its inception to the latest invention. Psst, we even heard you can create your own personalised, one-of-a-kind noodle cup there!

#3 Say hi to the giant Gundam

If only they let us pilot him.
If you’re a big anime fan, what’s a trip to Japan without visiting the iconic giant Gundam installation? This iconic 19.7-meter tall landmark can be found nearby the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza. The current installation features the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam and you can see it light up from Unicorn Mode to Destroy mode at various times of the day.

And once you’re done snapping photos, don’t forget to visit the Gundam Café located just behind the Unicorn Gundam. We heard their curry rice is to die for.

#4 Hang out at the Pokémon Centre and Pokémon Café

Gotta catch them all!
You can finally realise your long-childhood dream of becoming “the very best like no one ever was” (read: greatest Pokemon trainer) at any one of Japan’s many Pokémon Centres. You can ‘catch’ all your favourite Pokémon there (by buying the plushies, of course) and find all sorts of Pokémon merchandise that probably can’t get anywhere else.

And once you’re done getting ‘lost’ at the Pokémon Centre, make your way to the Pokémon Café to fill your tummy with some cute AF Pokémon-themed drinks and meals.
