These Are The 8 Canned Sardine Brands That Are Contaminated With Worms
A few days ago, the Ministry of Health found two canned sardine brands from China that are contaminated with ringworms. The brands in question are TL Tan Lung and TLC, which has since been recalled from the market.
On Friday, The Star reported that the Ministry has issued another statement after it was found that six more brands are contaminated with the parasite.
EUW this makes us want to puke! The six brands that you need to avoid are:
  • Cinta
  • Sea Fresh
  • HS Brand
  • King Cup
  • Star Cup
  • TC Boy
"The Health Ministry through the food safety and quality division has been monitoring imported canned fish (sardine and mackerel) in the local market," Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
The worms are part of the genus Anisakis spp species, which causes the anisakiasis disease in humans. It is commonly found in raw seafood or fish that are not fully cooked.
The common symptoms one would show when they are down with the anisakiasis disease are abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting.
"The Ministry has taken action against the companies involved and has ordered the products to be withdrawn from the market," Dr. Noor Hisham told the English daily.
Umm, so is anyone still up for some sardines for lunch or dinner?
