TLDR
- An Indonesian teacher has come under criticism after claiming that Malaysia frequently imports rice from Indonesia, particularly during periods of supply shortages.
- The teacher also alleged that Malaysia requested high-quality rice from Indonesia at discounted prices and claimed that neighbouring countries were unhappy because Indonesia had begun selling its resources directly.
- Many Malaysians rejected the claims due to a lack of evidence, while some Indonesian netizens urged others not to be influenced by Indonesia's political narratives.
One Indonesian teacher found himself on the receiving end of online criticism after making several claims about Malaysia while praising current Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
In a video shared online, the teacher appeared to be making the remarks in a classroom. According to him, Malaysia would seek rice imports from Indonesia whenever the country faced a shortage.

On top of that, he also alleged that Malaysia would ask Indonesia for its top-quality rice at discounted prices. “When Malaysia has no rice, they ask Indonesia. They asked for low prices too, even though the rice was our top-quality one.”
In the same video, the teacher added that some neighbouring countries were unhappy because Indonesia had begun selling its resources directly instead of going through them.
“Why should we use someone else’s door when we have our own? Why should we sell our resources through another country?”
The teacher concluded by urging his students not to be influenced by negative narratives about Indonesia.
Malaysians were not happy with the statements
In the comments section, many Malaysians expressed their dissatisfaction with the teacher's allegations, noting that there was no evidence to support his claims.
“Ever since I was born, I have never seen rice imported from Indonesia in this country. Maybe their rice is only used for livestock and not for human consumption.”
Meanwhile, some Indonesians also shared their views on the viral video. One user urged Malaysians not to be influenced by Indonesian politics, while another explained the narrative currently circulating in Indonesia.

“Please don’t be influenced by politics in Indonesia, guys. Our leaders like to say whatever they want without thinking. They are arrogant and want to show how powerful they are, but they're actually powerless,” commented a user.
