One Malaysian teenager has gone viral online for selling watermelon juice using an interesting ‘pay-as-you-wish’ concept.

According to his sister, the family decided to adopt the unique concept as Zufar struggles with reading and counting numbers, to prevent him from being manipulated.

“My brother cannot count well, so we were worried he would be exposed to situations where he could be taken advantage of. So, we chose the ‘pay-as-you-wish’ concept since it’s safer and easier for him."

She added, "Zufar was born premature. As he grew up, we didn’t notice anything different initially, but when he entered school, our parents were informed by teachers that he showed certain concerning signs. Now that he’s about to finish school, we’re taking this initiative to help him with his future career.”

He can sell about 50 cups daily, and more during Ramadan

Like many small businesses, daily sales depend on various factors, such as the weather. On average, Zufar can sell about 50 cups of watermelon juice a day, with sales increasing, especially during Ramadan or the school holidays.

However, on slower days, the family chooses to donate the drinks to nearby mosques as a form of charity.

“I once felt I was worthless.”

In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, Zufar shared that before starting the business, he struggled with feelings of worthlessness and had difficulty believing in himself.

“Before this, I used to stay at home, just watching TV and not doing anything. I felt like I was worthless, but my mom, dad, brother, and sister all believed in me. Even though I’m not good at reading and counting, I know one thing, to work hard. Every cup I make, I make with all my heart,” he shared.

In addition to his dyslexia, Zufar also faces other health challenges, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. He relies on several medications and treatments.

Despite the challenges, Zufar has expressed his heartfelt wish to take care of his parents before worrying about his own future.

Zufar’s story has since gained attention online, with many social media users praising him for his hardworking attitude and positive outlook despite his difficulties.
