MODU Opens At KLGCC With 13 Samgyetang Flavours, Including A Curry Laksa-Inspired Creation

TLDR

  • MODU KLGCC Mall introduces a new concept featuring exclusive menu items such as the Curry Laksa Samgyetang and Scorched Rice Samgyetang, alongside a relaxed rooftop dining experience overlooking the golf course.
  • The restaurant continues to centre its offerings around samgyetang with 13 different variations, while also introducing new dishes such as the Smoked Chicken, which highlights its grilled and smoked chicken concept.
  • Its spacious dining area and design inspired by traditional Korean hanok architecture make MODU KLGCC a suitable venue for a variety of occasions, from family gatherings to business meetings.

When MODU first arrived at The Exchange TRX, it introduced Malaysian diners to something still relatively uncommon here: a premium Korean restaurant dedicated almost entirely to samgyetang.

For its second outlet at KLGCC Mall, however, the brand isn't simply recreating what worked at TRX. While MODU remains firmly rooted in Korean wellness cuisine, the new location introduces exclusive menu items, a grilled chicken concept, and a serene rooftop setting overlooking the lush KLGCC golf course.

After trying several of its signature and outlet-exclusive offerings, it's clear that MODU KLGCC has a distinct identity of its own.

A more relaxed side of MODU

Located within a 5,500 sq ft rooftop pavilion at KLGCC Mall, the restaurant feels noticeably different from its city-centre counterpart.

Inspired by traditional Korean hanok architecture, the space combines warm wooden finishes, Korean latticework, and soft lighting to create a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor seating areas offer views of the surrounding golf course, making it a pleasant escape from the usual bustle of Kuala Lumpur.

The restaurant can accommodate around 100 guests and also features private VIP rooms, making it suitable for everything from family gatherings to business lunches.

At the centre of the space is an open kitchen and charcoal grill counter, where diners can watch chefs prepare dishes throughout the day.

New twists On MODU's signature samgyetang

Samgyetang remains the heart of the MODU experience, and the KLGCC outlet now boasts the brand's largest collection to date, with 13 different variations available.

The biggest draw for returning customers will likely be the two location-exclusive creations.

First is the Curry Laksa Samgyetang (RM60), which combines MODU's signature 12-hour slow-simmered broth with the aromatic flavours of Malaysian curry laksa. Served with taupok and bean sprouts, the dish sounds unconventional on paper, but the execution works surprisingly well. Rather than overwhelming the Korean elements, the curry spices complement the herbal notes of the broth, resulting in a bowl that feels both familiar and unique.

The second exclusive offering is the Scorched Rice Samgyetang (Nurungji) (RM58).

Topped with crispy scorched rice, this variation introduces an enjoyable contrast of textures. The toasted rice adds a subtle roasted aroma while gradually softening in the broth, creating a comforting bowl that feels particularly well-suited for rainy days.

We also sampled two of MODU's more established favourites.

The Truffle Samgyetang (RM64) remains one of the restaurant's standout dishes, with the earthy fragrance of black truffle adding richness and depth to the already flavourful broth. Despite its luxurious profile, the dish still retains the balance and comfort that samgyetang is known for. Meanwhile, the Mushroom Samgyetang (RM58) offers a more savoury experience. Packed with assorted mushrooms, the broth develops a deeper umami character that makes for an immensely comforting meal without feeling overly heavy.

Beyond the soup

While samgyetang remains MODU's signature, the KLGCC outlet shows that the restaurant is gradually expanding its appeal beyond its famous ginseng chicken soup.

The menu features a range of shareable dishes, including Corn Fries, Water Parsley Pancake, Spicy Mixed Noodles, Tofu Trio Platter, Grilled Rice Balls, Chicken Gizzard Popcorn, and Korean Chicken Porridge, giving diners plenty of options to build a more substantial meal around their samgyetang.

What we did try, however, was the Smoked Chicken (600g) (RM78), part of MODU's new grilled chicken-focused offerings introduced at KLGCC.

Tender and juicy throughout, the chicken carried a distinct smoky aroma without becoming overpowering. The meat retained its natural sweetness, while the smoking process added an extra layer of flavour that made it stand out from more conventional grilled chicken dishes.

The introduction of grilled and smoked chicken adds another dimension to the MODU experience, offering diners an alternative centrepiece alongside its extensive samgyetang selection.

Our verdict

What makes MODU KLGCC successful is that it doesn't feel like a copy-and-paste expansion of the TRX outlet.

The exclusive Curry Laksa and Scorched Rice Samgyetang offer fresh reasons for existing fans to return, while dishes like the Smoked Chicken showcase the restaurant's growing range beyond its signature soup.

Combined with the tranquil rooftop setting and golf course views, the result is a dining experience that feels more relaxed and a little more ambitious than its predecessor.

For those already familiar with MODU, the KLGCC branch offers something genuinely new. And for first-time visitors, it serves as a strong introduction to a restaurant that's helping redefine Korean comfort food in Malaysia.
