M'sian Mother Helps Deliver Grandchild in Car After Daughter Goes Into Labour on the Way to Hospital

What was supposed to be a routine journey to the hospital for a couple turned into a nerve-racking ordeal after the wife gave birth inside a moving car.

According to Siraj Yasman, 39, a teacher at Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Darul Riyadh in Rantau Panjang, his wife, Nuraisyah Fauzi, 28, told him she had started experiencing contractions at around 11 PM.

Having already welcomed five children, Siraj said he initially did not think much of it and believed his wife would be able to endure the contractions until dawn.

At around 1:40 AM, the couple began preparing to head to the hospital. Nuraisyah's mother accompanied them, while her brother drove the family in his multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

However, just 15 minutes into the journey, Nuraisyah's water broke and the baby's head began to emerge.

"When we arrived at Kampung Pendek after a 15-minute journey, my wife informed us that her clothes felt wet and that she could feel the baby's head had come out.

"It was then that my mother-in-law, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, immediately turned around and acted as a midwife to help deliver our sixth child," he told Kosmo!.

"My mother-in-law wasn't a midwife, but she had watched childbirth videos on TikTok."

Siraj recalled feeling increasingly panicked as he watched his mother-in-law help his wife through the delivery, "I was panicking and could only pray as I witnessed everything unfold. When the baby was born, I immediately held him and recited the azan."

"I still remember how fast my brother-in-law was driving so we could reach the hospital as quickly as possible. Thankfully, nothing happened along the journey," he shared.

The extraordinary moment was recorded by Nuraisyah's sister, who was seated in the back seat. The video has since gone viral online, with many praising Siraj's mother-in-law for her quick thinking and calm response.  

Siraj further explained that although his mother-in-law had no experience as a midwife, she revealed that she had watched several childbirth-related videos on TikTok.

It is understood that the family arrived at KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital shortly afterwards. Upon their arrival, hospital staff immediately attended to both Nuraisyah and her newborn baby.

Both Nuraisyah and the baby boy, who has yet to be named, were reported to be in good health when they arrived at the hospital.
