If you’ve ever doubted how friendly (and perhaps how random) Malaysians can be, you might want to read this story about how a man’s social media post sparked an unintentional small gathering in Kuala Lumpur.
On 12 January, a man by the username of @travelingsingledad took to Threads to invite fellow smokers to join him for a chill get-together.

He also shared a set of rules for those planning to attend, including a strict rule against underage smoking. Additionally, he stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness at all times and reminded attendees not to throw cigarette butts on the ground.
The post quickly caught the attention of others, many of whom expressed interest in joining the gathering.
True to form, the small smoking gathering eventually took place on 18 January at an open car park along Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

What made the gathering even more interesting was that some participants came prepared, bringing along their own folding chairs as they sat and shared a smoke together.

Netizens couldn’t resist cracking jokes
Aside from those eager to attend, the post also drew plenty of humorous reactions from netizens. Some jokingly asked whether non-smokers were allowed to “just sit and vibe,” while others teased that the gathering looked more organised than some official events.

Meanwhile, a few netizens even asked the man to organise another session, to which he replied that he plans to do so.
While the man did not disclose how many people showed up, it’s safe to say the gathering perfectly illustrates just how friendly (and random) Malaysians can be.
